Amid this COVID-19 pandemic, it's a tough decision to have to choose to either downsize or postpone the 2020 summer wedding that you've been dreaming of. It's heartbreaking and ok to be sad over it. But there are some upsides to having a downsized wedding – (1) You can have two celebrations – an intimate ceremony now and a wedding/reception later; (2) you'll get to marry the person you love the most twice! If you have your heart set on getting married this spring/summer, I want to provide you with some options of local venues offering downsized wedding packages.
The current Government of Alberta restrictions and recommendations are:
No gatherings over 15 people indoors
No more than 50 people gathered in an outdoor location.
All gatherings must follow physical distancing and other public health guidelines.
CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.
Here are some Edmonton and area venues that offer creative ways for you to get married this summer while following the Government restrictions.
Downtown Edmonton Venues
Foundry Room - The #loveisessential Ceremony Package
Foundry Room is one of the highly sought-after wedding venues located in downtown Edmonton, with a second location in Fort Saskatchewan. With the gorgeous window-lined walls, industrial space, and brick, this is a beautiful wedding venue.
Their downtown location provides an all-inclusive micro-wedding option for a two-hour venue rental with ten guests. They provide a DJ, Wedding Commissioner, Florist and Photographer. Live streaming is an option, and a wedding dress rental is included!
The Hotel Macdonald - Just Me & You, Let's Say "I Do"
Why not take advantage of a fairytale wedding at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald, without the cost of feeding 100 guests!
Five of the hotel's event spaces have been reimagined to accommodate an intimate wedding for up to 15 people with appropriate social distancing measures.
The Hotel Macdonald team will work with you to customize your perfect day!
St Albert Venues
The Ellis - The Turn Key Ceremony package
The Ellis is a unique, intimate studio located in St. Albert that I would describe as industrial meets vintage, packed with beautiful décor.
They are offering a ceremony and décor package that includes the private venue rental, music, décor (including a ceremony arch, florals, vintage rug, vases, candles and furniture) and photography. This package also includes a videography + Livestream option.

Obsidian Ridge - Intimate Escapes Elopement Packages
Escape to Obsidian Ridge. Located 40 minutes from downtown Edmonton, Obsidian Ridge is an outdoor venue surrounded by water fountains, perennials, hills, trees, meadows, and giant boulders, giving you the ambience of the Canadian Rockies.
They are offering three options under their Intimate Escapes Elopements packages.
The 2 hr "simple package" offers a covered outdoor ceremony area with benches and capacity for 14 people, their plug and play sound system, Livestream option and décor such as wine barrel podium, signing table and chair and a pentagon wooden arch.
Other packages include several additional services, from florals to dessert.
52 North Venue - Elopements
52 North Venue is a beautiful, upscale industrial venue located just north of Sylvan Lake. Situated on 7 acres of forest, this venue provides plenty of space to socially distance guests.
52 North Venue is offering two elopement packages: a basic option that includes a three hour rental of the reception space and full outdoor access, a ceremony arch, benches or chairs and reception tables and chairs. The second package consists of an overnight rental and full property access.
Trestle's Edge - Elopements
Rustic, charming and whimsical – this beautiful outdoor venue is located 25 mins north/west of Edmonton. They are offering four different wedding packages that give couples a variety of options.
All packages include a 4-hour rental to accommodate up to 14 people, an on-site Coordinator, use of décor: arch, ceremony benches, wine barrels, rustic cross back chairs, harvest tables, eucalyptus garland, 15 clear umbrellas, speakers and microphone.
They also offer a Venue + Food + Beverage package and an all-inclusive wedding experience that includes food, dessert, florals, photography and videography.
